Our Students in Action

Every week our students record one sentence that they would like the parents to learn.  This is posted on the Spanish Immersion Facebook page.  You can hear their voices here.

Our “Lower House” include our kindergarteners and first graders.  These teachers use hand gestures and facial expressions to help the children understand their meaning.  In these grades, the teachers speak to the children only in Spanish, but the students may answer in either language.  Students mostly communicate with each other in English and will help each other with translations.  This video was taken on the first day of school in a “Lower House” classroom, so for many of these students it is their first experience in a Spanish Immersion classroom.

This video was taken halfway through the school year.

In the “Middle House,” 2nd and 3rd graders communicate with the teacher in Spanish and start communicating with each other in only Spanish.  They are able to read, write and speak in Spanish and English.

In the “Upper House,” the older grades hold a morning meeting that is conducted by a student in Spanish.  It includes a welcome, news about the day and a closing game.
